Information relating to the recent announcement regarding the preferred new site for the new Frimley Park Hospital.
Surrey Heath Borough Council notes the recent announcement regarding the preferred site for the new Frimley Park Hospital.
The council has consistently supported the delivery of a new hospital while emphasising the importance of transparency throughout the decision-making process, alongside careful consideration of the impact on local infrastructure and our communities.
This position reflects motions passed by the council in October 2023 and December 2025, which called for greater transparency in the site selection process and urged the Trust to reconsider redevelopment of the existing hospital site in line with its stated site selection criteria, including a preference for brownfield development.
The decision on the preferred site is a matter for the NHS. Should a planning application for the new hospital be submitted, the council will be the local planning authority responsible for determining the application. It will discharge its statutory responsibilities in accordance with planning legislation, planning policy and other material planning considerations.
The council will continue to engage constructively throughout the process to ensure the interests of Surrey Heath residents are represented and considered.
Frimley Health, in partnership with Thames Valley Integrated Care Board (ICB), is running a programme of public engagement about the New Frimley Park Hospital proposals until 13 September 2026 so that patients, staff, partners and local residents can understand the proposals and share their views.
