Walk routes

All walks have different grades:  

Gentle: For new walkers who may be unfit or recovering from injury or illness. 

Moderate: For regular walkers and those who are fairly fit. 

Challenging: For experienced walkers. 

Ash Vale – River and Canal North/South 

Grade: Moderate 

Distance and time: 7 miles, 2.5 hours 

Meeting point: outside the main entrance (ticket office) of North Camp railway station, Aldershot, GU12 5QA. There is free on road parking near the station. 

Walk details: A circular walk from Ash Vale along the Blackwater River Path, including a refreshment break.

Bagshot 

Grade: Moderate 

Distance and time: 2.5 miles, 1 hour 

Meeting point: Bagshot Playing Field Association Car Park, GU19 5EN. There is free on road parking available near the Playing Field. 

Walk details: Join us for a gentle walk along charming lanes and woodland behind Bagshot. There are a few trees to cross on this route.  

Bagshot to The Lookout 

Grade: Challenging 

Distance and time: 6 miles, 2.5 hours 

Meeting point: outside St Anne’s Church, Bagshot, GU19 SEQ. 

Walk details: An hour’s trek through Swinley Forest to The Lookout for refreshments before the return journey. 

Basingstoke Canal

Grade: Gentle 

Distance and time: 3.75 miles, 1.5 hours 

Meeting point: Outside Frimley Lodge Café, Frimley Lodge Park, GU16 6HY 

Walk details: Follow the popular and peaceful canal towpath looking for wildlife along the way.  

Bisley

Grade: Gentle 

Distance and time: 2.5 miles, 1 hour 

Meeting point: Shaftsbury Road Car Park, Bisley, GU24 9ER. 

Walk details: Escape the noise of the main road and discover the woods, fields, and lanes of rural Bisley. There are a few stiles to cross on this route.  

Blackwater Meadows

Grade: Gentle 

Distance and time: 2.5 miles, 1 hour 

Meeting point: Admiralty Way Car Park, GU15 3DT. 

Walk details: Follow the meandering course of the River Blackwater and stroll through pleasant meadows.

Blackwater Park

Grade: Moderate

Distance and time: 8 miles, 2.5 hours

Meeting point: Blackwater Station Car Park, GU17 9AB.

Walk details: Following the winding Blackwater Valley Path from the Meadows to Horseshoe Lake, you’ll be grateful of the refreshment stop at a local pub along the way!

Brentmoor Heath

Grade: Moderate 

Distance and time: 3 miles, 1.5 hours 

Meeting point: Tringham Village Hall car park, GU24 9JP. 

Walk details: Wet and dry heathland habitats with vast woodland. You might see some wildlife along the way! There are some steep inclines and declines on this route.

Chalk Farm Lake

Grade: Moderate

Distance and time: 7 Miles, 2.5 hours

Meeting point: Meet at Chalk Farm Lake free car park off Camp Farm Road next to Lock Road, Aldershot, GU11 2PE.

Walk details: A pleasant, circular and flat walk along the Basingstoke Canal and Blackwater River Paths with a refreshment stop at Ash Vale Wharf.

Chobham Meadows

Grade: Gentle 

Distance and time: 2.5 miles, 45 minutes. 

Meeting point: Meet in the car park behind the Chobham Rider shop in Chobham High Street, GU24 8LZ. Please note the car park is free (1 hour limit) but you will need to get a ticket from the machine and display it. 

Walk details: Take a gentle stroll through the riverside meadows that lie beyond the village of Chobham. This walk can be wet underfoot at times.  

Chobham Place Woods 

Grade: Moderate 

Distance and time: 2.5 miles, 1 hour 

Meeting point: Outside Chobham Place Woods, on the junction of Windsor Road and Valley End Road.  

Walk details: If you’ve not discovered this place, you’re missing out! Secluded woodland, quiet lanes and open expanses of heathland await. 

Frimley Fuel Allotments

Grade: Challenging or Gentle 

Distance and time: 3 miles, 1.25 hours 

Meeting point: Pine Ridge Golf Club car park (Old Bisley Road, Frimley, Camberley, GU16 9NX). Park in the overflow area at the far end of the car park. 

Walk details: A walk alongside a golf course and through woodland with two relatively long steep ascents and one steep descent. A choice of either a gentle or challenging route is available on the day. 

Hawley Lake

Grade: Moderate 

Distance and time: 3.75 miles, 1.5 hours 

Meeting point: opposite the entrance to Hawley Lake Sailing Club (near the Crown and Cushion pub). New walkers please email contact.centre@surreyheath.gov.uk because the meeting point for this walk may change. 

Walk details: Hidden away on the outskirts of the Borough but well worth a visit! Wandering along man made tracks, through trees and circling the lake, you won’t visit just the once!  

Horseshoe Lake to Eversley 

Grade: Challenging 

Distance and time: 6 miles, 2.5 hours 

Meeting point: Horseshoe Lake, Mill Lane, Sandhurst, GU47 8JW. 

Walk details: This walk will explore a different section of the Blackwater Valley Path including a refreshment stop. With a choice of routes to be decided on the day, there’ll be something new to see each time.  

Lightwater Country Park

Grade: Moderate 

Distance and time: 2.5 miles, 1 hour 

Meeting point: the Café, GU18 5RG 

Walk details: Walk through the varied landscape of this breathtaking Country Park and beyond. Lots to see and explore; you’ll never get bored of the scenery.  

Mytchett Ranges 

Grade: Moderate 

Distance and time: 3.75 miles, 1.5 hours. 

Meeting point: Frimley Lodge Café, Frimley Lodge Park, GU16 6HY. 

Walk details: The moderate climb to the top of the ranges will all be worth it when you see the view! 

Old Dean Common

Grade: Challenging 

Distance and time: 3 miles, 1.25 hours 

Meeting point: Old Dean Bowls Club, GU15, 4BD. 

Walk details: The Old Dean Common is a vast natural heathland tucked away, to be enjoyed only by those lucky enough to know about it, with views across Bracknell and Camberley. 

Old Dean Common Extended

Grade: Challenging 

Distance and time: 4.5 miles, 1.5 hours 

Meeting point: Old Dean Bowls Club, GU15 4BD. 

Walk details: This is an extended version of the Old Dean Common walk, with more heathland and natural pathways to explore. 

Pirbright Green

Grade: Moderate

Distance and time: 7 miles, 2.5 hours

Meeting point: Park in the free car park on the green, GU24 0JE.

Walk details: A varied flat route from Pirbright Village to the Basingstoke Canal and back, with a refreshment stop on route.

Queen’s Avenue to Fleet 

Grade: Moderate 

Distance and time: 9 miles, 3.5 hours. 

Meeting point: the free car park near the junction of Queen’s Avenue and Prince’s Avenue, Aldershot, GU11 2LB. 

Walk details: Follow the Basingstoke Canal from Aldershot to Fleet for a refreshment stop before returning to Queen’s Avenue. 

Wildmoor Heath

Grade: Challenging

Distance and time: 6 miles, 2 hours

Meeting point: Wildmoor Heath Car Park, RG45 7PP.

Walk details: Enjoy a choice of walks through heathland, meadow and woodland, taking in Wildmoor Heath, the Devils Highway and Broadmoor, before stopping for coffee. There are 3 stiles on this walk.
