The 3G pitch at Frimley Lodge Park has reopened following a complete surface replacement.

The 3G pitch is a vital community asset achieving an impressive 90% occupancy in the peak winter season, and 75% occupancy during the off-peak summer season, with local teams, walking football groups and charities among the users.

Well-used by local sports teams and groups, the popular pitch also generates an income for the council through hire fees.

After 10 years of intense use the surface had reached the end of its useable life and its replacement was approved by the council Executive earlier this year, using funds set aside from when the facility was originally built.

Surrey Heath Portfolio Holder for Environment and Recreation Cllr Morgan Rise said: “The 3G pitch at Frimley Lodge Park is a hugely popular facility for local people and supports our priority of improving the health and quality of life of our community.

“The new 3G pitch surface looks fantastic – and access to high quality sporting facilities is key to a healthier, more active population. I hope to see residents of all ages using this renewed 3G pitch for many years to come.”

Completion of the works during the quieter summer period minimised the effect on users and the financial impact on the council.

Outdated maintenance equipment for the pitch has also been replaced, and halogen bulbs in the existing floodlights at the pitch were replaced with new energy-efficient LED lamp heads, which will reduce energy costs and environmental impact.
