New play equipment, upgraded community venues, accessibility improvements, solar PVs and CCTV cameras are among the projects awarded a total of more than £170,000 of funding in the latest round of Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Fund grants.
CIL funding consists of ringfenced payments made by developers for development taking place in the borough. The money is used to help build and improve the infrastructure our communities need to grow and thrive.
The successful projects are:
- £35,000 for Camberley Town Centre and Old Dean CCTV cameras – this represents additional CIL funding for a project already underway, to ensure that the CCTV upgrade meets the required service standards. The upgraded camera replacements will enhance the quality of coverage and contribute to the safety and security of visitors to these locations.
- £25,000 for Multi-Use Games Area resurfacing at Old Dean Recreation Ground, Camberley - replacing the existing deteriorated sports carpet with a tarmac surface and new multi-sport line markings. The replacement surface would provide a more durable, lower-maintenance facility that is better able to withstand vandalism and continued community use.
- £22,722 for accessible paths, patio, sheltered sensory garden and resurfaced activity area for Parity for Disability, Mytchett - addressing existing barriers caused by uneven and inaccessible surfaces, enabling users with disabilities to make greater use of outdoor space for recreation, exercise, sensory activities, gardening and social interaction.
- £15,102 for installation of new play equipment at Martel Close play area Camberley - installing monkey bars, providing additional play opportunities for older children and broadening the range of equipment available for families with children of different ages.
- £15,000 contribution to solar PV (photovoltaics) on Bisley Village Hall -improving the community building’s energy efficiency and reducing ongoing energy costs.
- £11,788 for accessibility improvements to St Mary's Church Centre, Camberley - replacing the existing single-glazed wooden entrance doors with automated, double-glazed doors to improve independent access to the church and community centre for users with mobility and accessibility requirements.
- £10,000 for fence and gate replacement at Frimley Green Recreation Ground - relocating the existing emergency access gate and associated fencing, so the existing area can be incorporated into planned improvements to the recreation ground’s outdoor gym and play area.
- £7,758 for toilet renovation at Frimley Community Centre - refurbishing the female and accessible toilet facilities at Frimley Community Centre as the final phase of a wider programme of building improvements, helping to make the community hub as inclusive as possible.
- £7,000 for new outdoor play equipment at Frimley Green Pre-school - including block play, water play, coat storage, a shelter, surface works, a mud kitchen, tunnel and new tables.
- £5,000 for accessibility improvements to Camberley Baptist Church - accessibility upgrades including the installation of handrails, repainting of steps, and provision of access to areas of the building that are currently less accessible.
- £5,000 for annexe refurbishment at Camberley & District Men's Shed - refurbishment of the former Groundsman’s building at London Road Recreation Ground to provide additional workspace, create capacity for training and skills development, broaden the activities available and increase the organisation’s ability to undertake projects for local charities, schools and community groups.
- £5,000 for new Public Spaces Protection Order signage – updating existing signage for recent changes to the orders, which help the council and police tackle low level antisocial behaviour. The signage will be updated to include the new West Surrey Council logo from 1 April 2027.
- £4,132 for new doors at Crabtree Road Girl Guiding Hall, Camberley - replacing ageing external and emergency exit doors with new secure access doors, improving the safety, security and long-term resilience of the building, which is used by a range of community groups.
- £1,665 for toilet refurbishment at Chobham Village Hall - replacing ageing fittings and improving water efficiency, modernising facilities and helping the hall continue to meet the needs of its users.
The successful projects follow the latest Call for CIL Projects, which ran from 6 July to 10 August 2026.
Funding was also reserved from the CIL Main Fund for two major proposed projects - £300,000 for a new pump track at Crabtree Recreation Ground, Camberley, and £175,000 for a new play area at Green Bank Way, Frimley.
Public consultations will be held about each of these two significant proposed projects in the coming months, with the feedback received helping to shape future decisions about the plans.
