Unauthorised fishing at Tomlins Pond in Frimley has resulted in ongoing anti-social behaviour issues, including discarded fishing lines causing injury to wildlife and significant amounts of rubbish being left behind.

After consultation with local residents affected, Surrey Heath Borough Council has removed the majority of the fish from the pond and responsibly rehomed them.

For those wishing to fish legally, the council offers fishing permits at Hammonds Pond in Lightwater Country Park, where anglers can enjoy a well-managed facility with a variety of fish species including carp, tench, roach, bream, perch and pike.

Surrey Heath Portfolio Holder for Environment and Recreation, Cllr Morgan Rise said: “It is a shame that we have had to take this action but we are committed to protecting our local wildlife and environment. The persistent anti-social behaviour associated with the unauthorised fishing at Tomlins Pond led us to remove the source of the activity.

“To be clear, fishing is still not allowed at this location - and it would be rather pointless now after the removal of the fish.

“I would encourage keen anglers to fish legally at authorised locations, including our fantastic facility at Lightwater Country Park, and ask all residents and visitors to respect this site to protect wildlife and the local environment.”
