The sale of a Camberley town centre site has been approved by Surrey Heath Borough Council Executive.
The site at 5-13 Obelisk Way includes three retail units and eight car parking spaces to the rear.
A thorough review of all council assets is underway to ensure value for money for local residents. This building, which currently produces a net negative operating income for the council, was identified for potential disposal.
Following a full marketing exercise, competitive offers were received for the site. A sale is proposed at a level which will reduce the council’s external debt and therefore allow debt interest costs to be reduced.
Generating capital receipts to reduce the council’s outstanding debt is a key element of the council’s Transformation Programme and Medium-Term Financial Strategy.
Following widespread expressions of support for the proposed sale in the Executive meeting of 16 September 2025, it was approved with authority to complete the sale being delegated to the Head of Property and Economic Development in consultation with the Portfolio Holder for Economic & Income Development and the Head of Finance.
