To assist women in sport the ‘She Leads Grant’ has been established to support young women in the borough between the age of 16 and 25, to obtain a coaching qualification in any sport of their choice.
This grant offers up to £200 per applicant to cover all, or part of a sports coaching qualification. We also have flexibility in the scheme to consider covering more depending on personal circumstances.
Councillor Morgan Rise, Portfolio Holder for Environment & Recreation, Surrey Heath Borough Council said:
“We are fortunate in Surrey Heath to have a variety of successful sports clubs and activities. These range from rugby to gymnastics, bowling to tennis and provide our residents the opportunities to be active and healthy whilst also having lots of fun.
“This grant enables potential leaders from all backgrounds the opportunity to gain coaching qualifications at no cost to themselves. Our sport clubs will also benefit from more young coaches who can train and support our athletes, especially the young talent coming forwards.

Who can apply
This grant is available to young women living in Surrey Heath who are aged 16 to 25.
How to apply
The first step is to contact the sports club that will support the administration of this application. Once the sports club has confirmed that they will support this application, the applicant will need to complete the She Leads application form.
If the application is successful the council will release the grant money to the club treasurer which is to be used to contribute towards the cost of a coaching qualification course. Responsibility for the booking of the course is on the chosen sports club. If no proof of attendance to the course has been provided within six months of the application being accepted, Surrey Heath Borough Council reserves the right to reclaim the awarded grant monies from the sports club.
Funding source
The council received funds upon closure of the Surrey Heath Sports Council. These funds have been allocated to support the borough’s talented athletes and sponsor the She Leads Grants.
