A special flag raising event and two minute silence was held for 999 Emergency Services Day at 9am on Tuesday 9 September 2025 at Surrey Heath House.
The event was hosted by the Mayor of Surrey Heath, Cllr Louise Ashbery and attended by guests including Surrey Heath Borough Leader Cllr Shaun Macdonald, borough and county councillors, Surrey Police officers, council officers and members of the public.
The two minute silence remembers all emergency service workers who have been killed as a result of their service to our nation.
The Mayor gave a speech paying tribute to all emergency workers, as did Honorary Alderman and former firefighter Alan Whittart, and Honorary Freeman of the Borough and former police officer Ken Clarke.
Cllr Louise Ashbery said: “This 999 Emergency Services Day is dedicated to showing our support and appreciation for our emergency services and NHS heroes, recognising the amazing work they do for us every day.
“All put themselves in harm’s way, prioritising our lives before their own, regardless of the circumstances, to keep us safe, protect us, rescue us, and put us back together again if we are sick or injured.
“Today we give thanks for all of them, and especially for those who serve or have served here in Surrey Heath.
“We are forever grateful for your tremendous sacrifice, dedication, commitment and unwavering support, and we must never take that service for granted.”
National Emergency Services Day was founded in 2016 and is supported by His Majesty the King, HRH The Prince of Wales, the Prime Minister and First Ministers of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
