An opportunity to generate funds to support council finances and deliver new homes locally will be considered at the upcoming Executive meeting.

The council has marketed part of Yorktown car park on Sullivan Road, Camberley in line with its allocation for housing in the emerging Local Plan. This Local Plan was subject to full public consultation, with no objections raised on this element.

Only part of the car park site is being considered for sale. The rest would continue to be a chargeable car park, with the remaining capacity above current demand based on an analysis of car park usage.

Yorktown car park currently offers 137 bays, including six disabled bays. If the sale goes ahead, 64 bays will remain, with three disabled spaces retained, alongside the electric vehicle charging points.

The Executive is being advised to authorise the sale of part of the car park in light of the bids that have been received for the site.

Surrey Heath’s Portfolio Holder for Property and Economic Development Cllr Kel Finan-Cooke said: “By carefully considering the future of part of this underused site, we have the opportunity to provide much-needed new homes for local people, while continuing to offer ample parking for visitors and residents.

“The Executive will consider the sale, which would both deliver new homes and generate a capital receipt to support council finances and Local Government Reorganisation.”
