Following a review of the council’s property portfolio, the land to the rear of Holly Hedge Road in Frimley was identified as one of the sites to put up for sale. However, following a recent reassessment the council has now taken this land off the market.
The site has open space protection which prevents development. The marketing process was an exercise in seeing whether a community organisation or a developer requiring sites for Biodiversity Net Gain may have been interested.
Councillor Kel Finan-Cooke, Portfolio Holder for Property and Economic Development, Surrey Heath Borough Council said;
“At the last property and economic development working group meeting, we reported that this site in Frimley had been withdrawn from the market after no material interest was received.
Consequently, I can confirm the land to the rear of Holly Hedge Road will remain in its current state and as property of the council.”
Background
The council recently reviewed its property portfolio to identify sites that have the potential to create a financial return through sale. The review was conducted to support the council’s finances, with proceeds from these sales going towards sustaining the council's essential services to residents.
The sites considered for sale were evaluated against their current use, levels of activity and estimated financial return. This review is part of several measures the council is taking to manage its finances whilst continuing to deliver vital services to residents.
