Great news for local families as four full playground refurbishments were approved at the council’s latest Executive meeting.
The play areas at Heatherside Recreation Ground, Frimley Green Recreation Ground, Camberley Park and Woodend Road, Deepcut will be upgraded as a result.
These well-used playgrounds have all been identified as needing replacement - the upgrades will include the installation of new, durable, age-appropriate equipment and improved safety surfacing. The council will engage with local residents, schools, and community groups to ensure the refurbished playgrounds reflect local needs.
The playground improvements will support a number of the council’s priorities including promoting healthier and more inclusive communities and protecting our environment.
The approved investment will improve access to safe and stimulating play environments and enhance community health and wellbeing. The upgrades will also respond to strong local demand and expectations, and ensure facilities comply with current health and safety standards.
The playground locations are geographically spread across the borough and serve diverse communities.
Each redesigned playground will provide a safe, inclusive and engaging environment for children of a wide range of ages and abilities. These playgrounds are more than recreational spaces - they serve as key points of community interaction, where families meet and connect across generations and backgrounds. Their presence meaningfully contributes to the quality of life for residents.
Outdoor play supports children’s development by encouraging physical activity, positive mental health, and social interaction. These upgraded spaces will help foster healthy, active lifestyles from an early age.
The Executive approved funding of £900,000 from the Strategic Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Fund for the replacement of these four playgrounds. The CIL Fund is made up of payments made by developers for development taking place in the borough, and can be used to support improved infrastructure in the local area.
