Surrey Heath Borough Council is set to consider the future of the Woodend Road car park in Deepcut.
As part of its strategic aim of making more effective use of land and property for Surrey Heath council taxpayers, and commitment to maximising the potential of under-utilised land, Woodend Road car park has been identified as becoming surplus to operational requirements in the near future.
The council is focused on our key priorities, including supporting a strong economy, creating more homes, and delivering effective services with sustainable finances. With a clear and growing need for housing in the borough, this site represents an important opportunity to help meet local demand in a responsible and community-focused way.
Surrey Heath Portfolio Holder for Property & Economic Development Cllr Kel Finan-Cooke said: “By considering selling this piece of land, we might unlock much-needed funds which we could reinvest back into our communities.
“This could mean continuing with discretionary support services for those most vulnerable in our community, supporting new affordable housing developments where they’re needed, or directly reducing the council’s debt and associated costs.”
Should the upcoming decision be agreed, there will be no immediate change to the current parking arrangements. The car park will remain fully operational for the time being, and no closure will take place until the new larger facility at St Barbara’s Church is completed.
This is expected to be either two years from December 2024, or approximately three months after the opening of the new car park, whichever comes first.
Access to local amenities will be maintained throughout.
Additionally, the alternative nearby car park will continue to offer free parking, while the on-street parking provision along Deepcut Bridge Road has also been improved. This should ensure ongoing convenience for both residents and visitors at the heart of the village.
A decision on the sale of Woodend Road car park will be made at an upcoming Executive meeting on Tuesday, 20 May 2025. Access the Agenda and read more about the Woodend Road car park item
