Surrey Heath Borough Council Executive has approved an extension to its existing grounds maintenance contract to help guarantee continuity of service for residents into the planned new unitary structure.

The current contract with Glendale is due to end in October 2027, and the new unitary authority is due to be in place from April 2027. The agreed extension to the contract to September 2030 will ensure the borough’s green spaces are properly maintained while the new unitary council considers the future provision of the grounds maintenance services across the new authority.

Analysis of different options has shown that an extension of the contract with the current provider is the most cost-effective way to retain service continuity of grounds maintenance services at a consistent level while Surrey Heath moves into becoming part of a unitary authority.

Surrey Heath Portfolio Holder for Environment and Recreation Cllr Morgan Rise said:

"Our parks and green spaces are among our borough’s greatest assets, and this decision helps ensure they will continue to be maintained to a good standard for residents to enjoy.

“This extension aligns with our priorities of protecting the environment, supporting healthier and more inclusive communities, and delivering sustainable services. It provides stability and continuity for our services as we plan for the changes ahead in local government."
