53rd Mayor of Surrey Heath elected

Mayor of Surrey Heath Cllr Louise Ashbery (seated)

Cllr Louise Ashbery was chosen as the 53rd Mayor of Surrey Heath at the Annual Meeting of Surrey Heath Borough Council on Wednesday 14 May 2025.  

Cllr Ashbery is a councillor for Heatherside ward.    

At the Mayor Making ceremony, Cllr Ashbery was sworn in as Mayor of Surrey Heath for the forthcoming year - receiving the Mayoral chain of office.    

Cllr Ashbery succeeds the previous Surrey Heath Mayor, Cllr Sarbie Kang.  

A resident of Surrey Heath for the past 27 years and working in the health sector, Cllr Ashbery is married to Alan (also a borough councillor) and has two children and three grandchildren.  

Cllr Alan Ashbery will be accompanying Cllr Louise Ashbery during her Mayoral term of office.  

Since her election in 2023, Cllr Ashbery has served on various committees, including External Partnerships and the Net Zero Working Group.  

Cllr Ashbery said: “I am extremely honoured to have been elected as Mayor of Surrey Heath, and I look forward to working with all of the residents of our Borough to ensure it continues to be a fantastic place to live and work.”  

Cllr Asbery has chosen two charities to support during her Mayoral year - Home-Start Surrey Heath and Surrey Heath Mencap.  

Cllr Ashbery said: “My nominated charities both represent issues close to my heart, and I look forward to helping both organisations to raise much-needed funds to continue their invaluable work.”  

Cllr Cliff Betton, who represents Mytchett & Deepcut ward, was appointed Deputy Mayor.
