Election timetable
Key dates for the elections and referendum are as follows:
- Publication of Notice of Election (nominations open the next day) – Monday 23 March 2026
- Deadline for nominations – 4pm, Thursday 9 April 2026
- Publication of Statement of Persons Nominated – by 4pm, Friday 10 April 2026
- Registering to Vote – midnight, Monday 20 April 2026
- Applying for a Postal Vote – 5pm, Tuesday 21 April 2026
- Cancelling or changing Postal or Proxy Votes - 5pm, Tuesday 21 April 2026
- Applying for a Proxy Vote – 5pm, Tuesday 28 April 2026
- First date that electors can apply for a replacement for lost postal votes – Thursday 30 April 2026
- Polling day - 7am to 10pm – Thursday 7 May 2026
- Last time that electors can apply for a replacement for spoilt or lost postal votes - 5pm, Thursday 7 May 2026
- Deadline for emergency proxy applications - 5pm, Thursday 7 May 2026
