Surrey Heath Sports Council

Information about the Surrey Heath Sports Council.

The Sports Council was formed in 2001 to offer support to the sporting community in Surrey Heath. The Sports Council is made up of appointed members from all sections of this community. It includes representatives from the Council, schools, community sports organisations and the Active Partnership. The Council grant aids to the Sports Council and in turn the Sports Council grant aids to local sports groups and individuals. The Sports Council meet quarterly. All sports organisations actively operating or intending to operate within the Borough can apply for membership.

Objectives

  • to promote, support and encourage participation in all forms of sports as recognised by Sport England
  • to provide grants to talented athletes, coaches and people who find financial constraints a barrier to participation

Grants

The Sports Council provide four different grants of up to £250.

Please note, the awarding of grants are currently on hold while the Surrey Heath Sports Council review their structure.

Club grant

Grants are awarded to clubs, teams or organisations towards the cost of specialist equipment. The aim is with the objective of benefiting or improving membership. The applicant(s) must operate in and benefit the residents of Surrey Heath.

Talented individual grant

Grants are awarded to talented athletes who live in Surrey Heath and are county or national representatives. The grants can be used to cover the cost of travel, coaching, equipment and membership .The applicant must live in Surrey Heath and evidence county or national playing standard.

Coach education grant

Grants are awarded to coaches wanting to achieve recognised national governing body qualifications. The applicant(s) must live in Surrey Heath and use the grant for the benefit of Surrey Heath clubs/residents

Financial support grant

Grants are awarded to those where cost is the main barrier to sport. The applicant must demonstrate that they fulfil one of the following: on jobseekers allowance, incapacity benefits or free school meals.
