VE Day 75

8 May 2020 is the 75th anniversary of VE Day, which marked Victory in Europe in World War 2.VE Day 75 logo

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this will need to be commemorated differently, at home, rather than with social gatherings and public events.

We are encouraging everyone in Surrey Heath to follow the government guidance and stay safe at home while celebrating VE Day.

We'll be sharing our virtual VE Day commemorations on our SHBC social media channel (Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn) on Friday 8 May, including a special message from the Mayor combined with some local history in collaboration with Surrey Heath Museum.

View the special message from the Mayor of Surrey Heath, Cllr Robin Perry:

Details of national events taking place can be found at the official VE Day 75 website. This includes a two minute silence at 11am, 'Raise a Toast to the Heroes of WW2' at 3pm, and a message from HM the Queen at 9pm. You can also download activity packs, recipes and more from this site.
