Surrey Heath COVID Marshals and Ambassadors

Date:

Friday, 30 October, 2020

Funding has been provided by central Government for COVID marshals and ambassadors in Surrey Heath.

An overview of these roles is below.

COVID Marshals

COVID marshals are employed through Pavilion Security, a local security company,

SHBC’s COVID marshals will be deployed to support compliance of the COVID rules with businesses and the public in Camberley and across the borough.  For example wearing face coverings in indoor public spaces.  They will also enforce behaviour that may put people at risk of infection, for example hospitality businesses not recording their customers’ details or seating them on tables larger than six.

Our marshals will be a professional, friendly, smart, visible presence and will wear the Surrey Heath Borough Council logo and carry ID. SHBC Environmental Health officers will provide guidance on what is to be covered when marshals visit businesses. The overall objective is to provide support and advice but if there are areas of concern these will be reported back to Environmental Health for review.

The marshals will work closely with other agencies and stakeholders including the police, COVID ambassadors and Collectively Camberley.

COVID Ambassadors

COVID ambassadors are covered by the same funding and guidance as the marshals.

The Council are currently interviewing for the ambassador roles, find out more and apply on this link.

The ambassadors will provide a reassuring presence in Camberley town centre during the following busy times: Mon - Fri 11:30 - 15:00, Sat - 10:00 - 16:00.

The ambassadors will work with the council’s Economic Development team as well as Collectively Camberley, The Square and The Atrium to give confidence to shoppers and businesses that Camberley is COVID safe. In addition they will act as general ambassadors and assist shoppers by giving directions to, for example, the bank, bus stops, toilets and where to buy a masks.

Any non-compliance with COVID regulations will be reported to the police and environmental health as appropriate.

The COVID marshals will be starting on Tuesday 3 November 2020, the ambassadors in mid-November.
