Surrey Heath Borough Council (SHBC) is aware of information circulating in the community on a proposed 4-pitch Gypsy and Traveller site in part of Diamond Ridge Woods just outside Camberley. The Council would like to clarify the Facebook post on the Old Dean Community Group was not shared by SHBC.
SHBC is currently consulting on a draft Local Plan, which closes on the 9 May 2022. A part of Diamond Ridge Woods has been put forward as a potential site. The site will be assessed against all Local Plan policies and other material considerations relevant at the time of application. If the proposed site is allocated as a Gypsy and Traveller site in the Local Plan any development on the site will still be subject to planning permission.
The proposed site at Diamond Ridge Woods would include the provision of high quality landscaping and appropriate and usable private and communal amenity space, as well as retaining the existing vegetation boundary along London Road. Any future development will have to provide adequate vehicular access and mitigation regarding any noise and air quality impact.
Camberley Judo Club and Camberley Boxing Club are not part of the proposed 4-pitch site and much of the woodland will remain. Works to improve the biodiversity of the woodland area are currently being undertaken but are not connected to the proposal of part of Diamond Ridge Woods as a 4-pitch permanent Gypsy and Traveller site in any way.
SHBC has issued a call to landowners for submissions of all possible sites with a closing date of the 20 May.
SHBC is committed to ensuring that all communities within the Borough are fairly represented and it does not condone divisive and non-inclusive attitudes.
