Pembroke House opening event – 8 November 2021, bringing affordable homes and a new Co-Op to Frimley Road, Camberley

Monday, 8 November, 2021

Surrey Heath Borough Council, Berkeley Homes and Clarion Housing Group have delivered 25 new affordable homes for shared ownership in Camberley.

The Pembroke House development is providing brand new modern, spacious and energy efficient one and two bedroom apartments each with a contemporary fitted kitchen and an allocated parking space.

A retail unit is also part of the ground floor of the new development and this has been leased to Co-Op, providing an one stop supermarket to the local area.

To celebrate the opening of the new homes, a special ribbon-cutting event took place on Monday 8 November where the Worshipful Mayor of Surrey Heath, Cllr Sarah Jane Croke, declared the homes officially open.

The Mayor of Surrey Heath, Councillor Sarah Jane Croke said: "It was a great honour to open these new homes.  Camberley is a great place to live and I'm proud that Surrey Heath Borough Council is able to deliver one of the few 100% affordable housing developments in the area.”

The event was also attended by Cllr Adrian Page, Portfolio holder for Planning and People, Harry Lewis from Berkeley Homes and James Gray, Director of Partnerships (South) at Clarion Housing Group.

Cllr Adrian Page said "As house prices and private rents increase, affordable housing is vital as it means more people can afford to buy their own home who otherwise would be priced out of renting or buying on the open market. This is an excellent development and I am sure the new residents will be happy living here for many years to come."

Harry Lewis, Managing Director at Berkeley Homes (Southern) Ltd, said: “We are thrilled to have worked alongside Surrey Heath Borough Council to facilitate the growing demand for affordable homes in Camberley and surrounding areas. It is great to officially hand these properties over to leading housing association Clarion Housing so that they can help buyers get onto the property ladder in Camberley through Shared Ownership. Together with Clarion Housing, we share a joint vision to deliver affordable and attainable new homes to local communities in and around the South East, and we are pleased to continue our valued relationship with them at Pembroke House.”

James Gray, Director of Partnerships (South) at Clarion Housing Group, added: “We are delighted to be bringing these high quality new affordable apartments at Pembroke House to the market. These impressive homes, available through shared ownership, will offer an excellent opportunity for local first-time buyers who may be struggling to get their foot on the property ladder. With the fantastic amenities already present in Camberley, alongside the exciting ongoing town centre regeneration works, this scheme offers a fantastic place to live which has been borne out by the high level of buyer interest and commitments received to date.”

What is Shared Ownership

Shared Ownership is an excellent way for people to take their first step onto the property ladder. Buyers purchase a share of between 25% and 75% of the property’s value, and pay a subsidised rent on the remaining share.

What is Shared Ownership?

To be eligible for a Shared Ownership home at Pembroke House:

• You must be at least 18 years old.

• You must be unable to buy a home suitable for your needs on the open market.

• You will need sufficient savings for a mortgage deposit

and a clean credit history to qualify for a mortgage.

• Your annual household income must be less than £80,000.

• You must be a first-time buyer or existing shared owner.

If you already own a home, and need to move but cannot afford to, then please discuss your situation with us. There are some circumstances under which you may be eligible.

In line with government priorities, priority for Shared Ownership homes is awarded to serving military personnel and former members of the British Armed Forces honourably discharged in the last two years. People who live or work in the local area also receive priority. We welcome applications from everyone and will try and help if we can.
