Mr Damian Roberts was appointed as the new Chief Executive of Surrey Heath Borough Council at an Extraordinary Meeting of Full Council this evening.
Mr Roberts joins from Epsom and Ewell Borough Council where, since 2018, he has been Chief Operating Officer. He has extensive experience in local government having been Director for a range of services in Waverley, Croydon, Tower Hamlets and Islington. He is results driven with a background in transforming service delivery, building effective partnerships and developing a culture of high performance amongst staff. He has also led on the development of a large public and stakeholder engagement exercise to create a new long-term vision for the Borough of Epsom and Ewell.
Mr Roberts said "I am honoured and delighted to have been appointed Surrey Heath’s new Chief Executive. I am excited to be joining such a fantastic Borough and am very much looking forward to working with elected members, partners and staff on the next important stage in Surrey Heath’s journey.”
Cllr Alan McClafferty, Leader of the Council said "I would like to congratulate Damian on his appointment, following a robust recruitment process. I have no doubt that with his broad experience and expertise he will help to drive the Council forward for the benefit of the Borough and I look forward to working with him.
"I'd like to thank the cross party appointment panel for their time and commitment to the process, the task was made especially difficult by the high calibre of applicants.
"Finally I would like to thank Tim Pashen for agreeing to act as Chief Executive until this appointment could be made. Tim stepped in as Acting Chief Executive in April and has done an outstanding job in some of the most challenging months in the history of local government, leading the Council through the pandemic with calm authority.”
Mr Roberts will take up his post early next year.
