The Mayor of Surrey Heath, Cllr Sarah Jane Croke, has shared this festive message with the people of the Borough.

"Christmas is full of shiny things
That sparkle, gleam and glow;
These holiday pleasures dazzle us,
And yet, deep down we know....

That Christmas has its special gifts,
But our year-round joy depends,
On the cherished people in our lives,
Our family and our friends.

I think that poem sums up what has been demonstrated by the way the Surrey Heath community has pulled together yet again this year, to help each other get through the difficult times.
Christmas is a time for fun, and presents, and family and friends - but it is also a time for reflection.

And as we look back over 2021, a year when Covid-19 has continued to be a constant backdrop to events, we have been reminded again of the importance of a strong support network. Family, friends and neighbours, who are there to help, and support, and just be there for each other.
That is something good that has come out of the pandemic, and something that we should all be proud of across the whole Borough.

The vaccine rollout has been an epic effort this year, and I want to say a special thank you to all the staff and volunteers who have helped make that happen locally.
And another big thank you to the NHS staff and other frontline workers who have kept going through the most difficult of times - you truly are heroes.

So as we keep our fingers crossed this year for a festive season where we are able to spend time with our loved ones in person, I want to wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas.
Also a very happy Hannukah, Winter Solstice, and any other special festival you may be celebrating.
With all my best wishes for a happy and healthy new year in 2022 - take care!"
