Community groups and organisations will soon be able to take advantage of upgraded kitchen facilities when hiring Camberley Theatre after the refurbishment was approved by Surrey Heath Borough Council’s Executive.
Following the decision made at the meeting on 19 July, the theatre’s refurbished kitchen will soon be available to hire by local groups and commercial firms.
The new facilities will include a high-power electric oven, 12 gas hobs, microwave, food preparation area plus a new ventilation and extraction system.
The upgraded catering equipment will complement the theatre’s existing room hire options, which can be used for a variety of events and functions, seven days a week.
Past events at the venue have included community feasts, birthday and anniversary parties, wedding receptions, dinner/dance functions and award ceremonies.
Surrey Heath Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Community Cllr Rebecca Jennings-Evans said: 'I am delighted that Surrey Heath Borough Council have taken the steps to refurbish the kitchen at Camberley Theatre, to improve the facility and make it safe for community groups to hire. Our regular community hirers, such as the Camberley Sikh Association, will make full use of the kitchen in the future.'
Mohinder (Ricky) from Camberley Sikh Association said:'We are thrilled that the kitchen at Camberley Theatre is being refurbished to such a high standard. The Camberley Sikh Association hold monthly gathering there, which include prayers (Paath), Kirtan followed by langar -is a community Kitchen -CSA serves vegetarian cooked food to the community. CSA have willingly contributed funds towards the renovation and are looking forward to using the upgraded facilities, we are grateful to the council and the theatre for their efforts to secure funding for this work to be completed.'
