Bin Collection Strike Information - 10 August

Date:

Wednesday, 10 August, 2022

The GMB union are currently taking strike action in Surrey Heath. This has arisen from a dispute between the GMB and the waste contractor Amey over pay.

Strike action by the GMB is scheduled to continue until 19 August.
Police were again present at the depot this morning and all crews left for their rounds on time.

Due to the number of staff available, services today will continue to focus on clinical, food and residual waste. We have been informed by Amey that there will be no dried mixed recycling or garden waste collections in Surrey Heath until further notice, so please do not place your bin out as crews will be unable to empty it.

Please continue to report your missed bins as usual via the JWS website or the Amey contact centre on 03332 340978, Monday – Friday, 8.30am-5pm. This will assist with managing services.

Due to the hot weather expected on Thursday and Friday, bin crews will be starting their rounds earlier than usual when the temperatures are cooler. As a result, residents are asked to present their bins for collection by 5.30am on their scheduled collection day, rather than the usual 6am.

Clear plastic sacks are available for residents to collect for free from various locations across the borough including the Surrey Heath Borough Council Reception, which is open between 9am and 5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 4.30pm on Fridays. Chobham Pavilion has been added to the list of collection points.

These can be used to temporarily store any dried mixed recycling that doesn't fit in the recycling bin. Thank you to residents who are kindly picking up clear plastic sacks for their more vulnerable neighbours. Up to six sacks can be collected on each visit. Residents may also use their own clear plastic sacks or cardboard boxes to store excess recycling if they wish.

Residents may wish to take uncollected waste and recycling to their nearest Community Recycling Centre - there are sites at Wilton Road, Camberley and Swift Lane, Bagshot. You can find more information at Surrey County Council's Community Recycling Centre webpages and the JWS website.

We thank you for your understanding as we continue to work hard with our partners to deal with this challenging situation.
