Walks Accessibility Information

In partnership with Parity for Disability, Surrey Heath Borough Council has audited some of its popular walk routes to collate accessibility information.

This information includes aspects of the walk sites including route surfaces, toilet access, and other accessible facilities.

We hope this information will allow residents with additional needs to make informed decisions about where they may choose to walk in Surrey Heath.

Please note this information is to be used as a guide and each individual’s experiences may differ based on specific needs.

Frimley Lodge Park

  • Overall grade: Light wheelchair accessible
  • Paths can be uneven in places, more suited to lighter wheelchairs. Access to the main picnic area, fields, and playing areas is good, including wheelchair-friendly picnic benches. The playground includes a wheelchair swing, keys can be accessed via the Groundsman's office and the cafe.
  • Basingstoke Canal is accessible from the park but towpath can be difficult to self-propel on due to surface
Please note:
  • Limited parking for high sided vehicles
  • Toilets are accessible but no adult hoist or changing bed in changing rooms
  • Paths can become heavy and wet following wet weather

Lightwater Country Park

  • Overall grade: Walk routes not suitable for wheelchair users
  • Lightwater Country Park is a SSSI natural heathland which means the main walking routes are undulating with tree roots and slopes. The first pond is wheelchair accessible for duck feeding and there are plenty of birds to watch!
  • On the main heathland, trails are a mixture of soil and gravel with steps in places
  • Paths can become heavy and wet following wet weather
Please note:
  • No high sided vehicle parking due to 2m height barrier at entrance
  • Toilets and café at the park have a sloped entrance, can be relatively tight for space
  • There is no adult hoist or changing bed in the disabled toilet
