Work while you study - being an apprentice enables you to gain on the job-specific skills and experience, whilst earning money and studying too.
The Council can offer apprenticeships in a wide variety of job roles including Finance, Law, Community Development and Greenspace.
Apprenticeships will also involve studying with an approved training provider, which could include colleges or universities, as an apprenticeship can provide you with the opportunity to study at degree level.
All apprenticeships are paid for by the Council via the ‘apprenticeship levy’ which means you don’t have the worry of large student fees.
For further information regarding the apprenticeship levy please visit https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/apprenticeship-levy
Surrey Heath's apprentices share their experiences
Community Development Apprentice Natalie was recently named Apprentice of the Year for the South East in the National Apprenticeship Awards 2018.
Natalie said: “After studying politics at college, I was keen to get into a role within UK government.
“Since starting at SHBC, the support given to me by my training provider has been fantastic, while I study for a Level 3 NVQ in Business Administration.
My favourite part of the role is the customer-facing element. This role is definitely influenced by event-organisation; I've already learnt so much – not just work-based skills, but life skills.
Dealing with members of the public, event management, compliments/complaints and so much more - the phrase 'you learn something new every day' really rings true with my job!
Working full-time has shown me that apprenticeships take a lot of work – with lots of reward! This role has shown me how positive my future can be if I really put the work in.”
Legal Apprentice Luke said: “The role has been very engaging and kept me on my toes throughout the time I have worked here.
This is mainly due to the variety of matters that are dealt with by our in-house legal team.
I have learnt a wide range of skills that have helped me to grow into my role.
My client interaction and management has been developed, along with my research skills, and formulating responses based on research I have done.”
