Summer reprieve for teen café
Surrey Heath's popular Youth Café will stay open this summer, so youngsters can keep in touch with their school mates during the long break.
Launched in September 2005, the Youth Café provides young people aged between 13 and 17 with a safe place off the streets to socialise and meet new friends.
It is held at The Good Taste Coffee Shop in Camberley High Street, and is open most Friday evenings from 7.30pm to 10pm. The project is operated by Surrey Heath Borough Council's youth and community development teams and the coffee shop staff.
Youth workers and police community support officers are always on hand in the café during the evening to chat about any issues or concerns young people might have. It is free to go along - plus there's a 20 per cent discount on all purchases from the coffee shop during Youth Café hours.
The Youth Café is funded by the Safer Surrey Heath Partnership, but it is not always possible to keep it open during the school holidays. We will endeavour to keep the cafe open during holiday periods for specific details please contact Jayne Boitoult as above.
Councillor Richard Brooks, portfolio holder for the town centre, said: It is very pleasing that we can keep this valuable facility open by popular demand during the summer holidays. It is a great place for people to meet up and enjoy the summer and we are grateful to Surrey Heath Safer Partnership for its help in securing funding to extend the benefits that the Youth Café can provide.
