How to avoid getting a parking ticket
Parking Tickets are issued by Surrey Heath Borough Council Parking Services in accordance with the Traffic Management Act 2004.
Penalty Charge Notices (PCN) are issued for various offences including:
Who is responsible for paying the penalty charge notice?
The person who normally owns the vehicle will be responsible for any unpaid charge. If you lend your car to a friend you will still be responsible for any penalty charge.
How much is a penalty charge notice?
From 31 March 2008 differential parking penalties, depending upon the severity of the contravention have been introduced. Some less serious contraventions now attract a lower rate of penalty (£50), whilst considered more serious are now penalised at a higher rate of £70. The 50% discount if a PCN is paid within 14 days of issue will remain for both types of contraventions.
| Lower Charge | Higher Charge | Timescales |
|---|---|---|
| £25 | £35 | If you pay it within 14 days |
| £50 | £70 | If you pay it between 15 and 28 days |
| £50 | £70 | If you pay it after we have served you with a 'Notice of Owner' but before we have served you with a 'Charge Certificate', which is usually within 29 days. |
| £75 | £105 | If you pay it after we have served a 'Charge Certificate'. |
| £80 | £110 | If you pay it after it has been registered as a debt. |
How do I pay my Penalty Charge Notice?
Please Note: We do not accept American Express / Diners Card or JCB Cards. Credit cards incur a 1.5% charge (with the exception of Parking Fine payments).
If no payment is received within 14 days of issue, the registered owner may be sent a Notice of Owner' requesting payment. The 'Notice of Owner' will also describe how the owner may make formal challenge or appeal objecting to the issue of the Notice.
