Noisy Neighbours

The Council operates a call centre emergency service on 01276 707100* for dealing with noise complaints. So if regularly you make too much noise then you can expect a call from an Environmental Health Officer.

If you fail to control the noise you could be prosecuted and receive a fine of up to £5000. In addition, the EHO may seize any noise equipment and apply to the Courts for its permanent confiscation.

*Environmental Health do not provide an out of hours service, but we do provide an emergency service.

What is covered by the emergency service?
The service is there to deal with a major food poisoning / infectious disease outbreak, a serious health and safety accident where a fatality or major injury has occurred, a serious pollution incident and some types of noise complaints.

It is not there to deal with non-urgent or on-going environmental health complaints e.g. barking dogs, pest complaints, smoky bonfires and missed bins. Out of hours a complaint would be taken but an officer would not generally attend / respond unless there were 3 or more individual residents from different households complaining. We would not generally attend where the noise is from an event occurring only once or twice a year.
