Graffiti

It is the responsibility of Surrey Heath Borough Council to remove graffiti on highways and public land but in relation to private property, telephone and cable junction boxes, we request that the owners undertake the removal themselves (see contact details below).

The council's graffiti removal team works every day responding to complaints and cleaning known problem public areas. They start as early as 5:30 am while the streets are quiet and empty they can take the special 'Grimebuster' machine to do the really difficult jobs. The team have to assess the work to see what is the most appropriate form of removal. This could be painting over the graffiti, using a special chemical to dissolve it (provided the surface underneath is not then damaged), or pressure washing.

Offensive or racist graffiti will be dealt with within 24 hours of being reported and usually on the same day as the report is received.

For graffiti on private property it is the responsibility of the owner/occupier to remove. We can enforce removal by way of a notice.

Anyone caught carrying out acts of graffiti can be issued with a fixed penalty notice.
