Contaminated Land
Surrey Heath Borough Council has a duty to regularly inspect sites in the borough that may be contaminated.
Risk assessments are carried out at each potentially contaminated site and a judgement made whether the risk is high enough to warrant an intrusive investigation.
Home buyers are able to write to the council and seek information on any potential contaminated land in or around their property. There is a charge for this service.

There is a charge for this service which is on a rechargeable basis.
It is advisable that this enquiry be carried out by the conveyancing solicitor at the time a search is carried out as they will know the correct questions to ask.
What is the response time to an enquiry? The Council will endeavour to reply to any enquiry on contaminated land within 48 hours. The time taken depends on the complexity of the enquiry and hence the number of departments that need to be consulted.
