As part of our commitment to help residents live a healthy and active lifestyle, SHBC is working in partnership with the LTA to get more people playing tennis more often, and to make sure our park tennis facilities are sustainable.
Earlier this year we held a public consultation to understand the views and motivations of both existing and potential parks tennis users.
Responses showed improved court conditions and a clearer, simpler booking system were the main factors that would people more likely to play at parks tennis venues.
In response to this, court improvement works will soon take place at our London Road Recreation Ground venue.
We will also be introducing ‘Clubspark’ soon - a simple, customer-friendly online booking and payment system.
London Road Recreation Ground will also be the pilot site for a new gate-access system that works in conjunction with Clubspark.
The aim will be to make similar improvements at our remaining park tennis venues over time.
Temporary Closure – London Road Recreation Ground
The first phase of court refurbishment works including jet-washing, moss treatment and gate installation has now been completed.
The second phase of refurbishments including minor surface repairs and repainting is now in progress. Works will be completed with the courts reopen as usual from Saturday 23rd June.
We thank residents for their patience while these improvement works are undertaken and will continue to update this page and our social media channels as further information becomes available.
While we apologise for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closures, the courts at our alternative parks tennis venues will continue to be open and available:
•Watchetts Recreation Ground
•Mytchett Recreation Ground
•Frimley Green Recreation Ground
