Lightwater Country Park

Lightwater Country Park is situated on the edge of Lightwater Village and extends to 59 hectares. The Country Park is predominately heathland habitat, but there are also ponds, woodland, meadows and areas of scrub. These habitats offer the opportunity to observe a wide variety of wildlife, birds, mammals, plants and insects. Lightwater Country Park is just off Junction 3 of the M3 motorway between the villages of Bagshot and Lightwater. From Guildford and Bracknell it is signed off the A322.

Conservation
The area of heathland within the Country Park has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The Country Park is therefore an area of high nature conservation value. This is due to the rarity of this type of habitat against damaging operations or development. For more information on SSSI please go to www.english-nature.org.uk/special/sssi/

Volunteering
The period from October through to February is the conservation season. During this time the Rangers run weekly conservation tasks, usually on Thursdays. The priority for these task days will be clearance of invading scrub and pine from the heathland areas, though there may be additional one-off projects as well. If you are interested in wildlife or just crave fresh air and exercise and have some spare time, why not come along and help this vital conservation work?
