Gas Safety

Under The Gas Safety (Installation & Use) Regulations 1998, Regulation 35 states that it shall be the duty of every employer to ensure that any gas appliance, installation pipework or flue installed at any place of work under his control is maintained in a safe condition so as to prevent risk of injury to any person.

'Gas Safe' is the national organisation for gas safety in the UK. They investigate complaints and advise on the safety of gas installations and connections. If you are having work completed on a gas installation the individual carrying out the works must be Gas Safe registered. They must also hold the correct qualifications to do the type of work you need. The installer should show you their Gas Safe ID card before they start work.

If you suspect that you have had illegal gas work completed by an individual who is not Gas Safe registered you can contact Gas Safe on a Freephone number 0800 408 5500 or visit www.GasSafeRegister.co.uk. They may be able to address any doubts or concerns that you may have.

Fixed Installations
Boilers and other gas appliances should be given an annual service by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
