Building Control Information

Building ControlThe Surrey Heath Borough Council Building Control team has extensive local knowledge of the varied ground conditions throughout the Borough and first hand knowledge of existing building construction. Our professionally qualified and experienced team is here to:

  • Help you design and construct to the statutory requirements. You should get in touch with us at the first stage of design so that areas of concern can be rectified.
  • Provide a fast and effective plan checking service.
  • Give same day site inspections (if received before 10 am)
  • Value for money fee charges. We now set our own fees at a non-profit making level thus giving a "value for money" service.

Building Regulations - What are they and why do we need them?
The Building Regulations are a national set of regulations made under the powers of the Building Act 1984. They provide guidance through Approved Documents, which provide a minimum level of acceptable building practice and design.

Building Regulations are necessary so that the minimum standards of design and construction for new buildings, alterations and extensions are met in order to

  • safeguard the health and safety of persons in and around the buildings
  • to conserve energy through insulation and control usage
  • to provide access and facilities for disabled persons
