Building Inspections

Having applied for Building Regulation approval it is essential to ensure that the site work is inspected at certain stages to ensure compliance.

You have a *Statutory Duty to inform us of the following stages if they apply to your application.

  • Commencement
  • Excavations for foundations
  • Foundation concrete
  • Damp proof course
  • Material oversite
  • Concrete oversite
  • Drains - when laid
  • Drains - when tested
  • Occupation - prior to completion
  • Completion

In order for full compliance to be ascertained and in order that correct advice may be provided, notice should also be given of the following stages:

  • Main Structural elements, whose failure would be significant. (i.e. Floor timbers, roof timbers, steel beams, timber beams, etc.)
  • Specific areas of unusual design or complexity
  • Work relating to fire safety
  • Work affecting access and facilities for disabled people.


The above inspections may be notified in writing or by telephone direct to the Building Control Division. If requesting an inspection by telephone, please contact 01276 707223. 

*Failure to comply with the provision of statutory notices may result in legal action being taken.
