The Council's Environment Committee approved the Supplementary Planning Guidance 'Garden Centres and Nurseries' on 14 March 2002 for adoption and publication.

The Guidance will be of particular interest to:

  • Owners and operators of garden centres and nurseries;
  • Parish Councils and amenity groups;
  • The Council, in support of its development control functions.

The document has three main objectives:

  • To assist the Council, as local planning authority, to deal with planning applications for nursery and garden centre developments;
  • To help nursery and garden centre operators and their agents, understand the basis of planning policies and other material planning considerations which will be taken into account in considering planning applications; and
  • To provide guidance on matters that may be included in planning conditions attached to planning permissions for nursery and garden centre developments.

As part of the preparation of the Guidelines, a consultation exercise was undertaken involving parish councils, local garden centres and the Rural Development Commission.If you have any queries about the Garden Centres and Nurseries Supplementary Planning Guidance, please contact:
