Permitted development and vehicular crossover enquiries

Guidance on permitted development rights and dropped kerbs, and how to obtain confirmation that planning permission is not required.

Permitted development

Please use the Planning Portal Interactive House Guides (external link) to find out whether you need planning permission.

The government has also published a householder technical guide which can be viewed on the GOV.UK website (external link)

Please note we do not provide informal advice as to whether planning permission is required. We’d advise you to apply for a Lawful Development Certificate.

Dropped kerbs

The Council no longer provides informal advice on this matter and instead can only provide a formal determination on whether planning permission is required in response to the submission of an application for a Lawful Development Certificate.

Application forms and additional information can be found on the Planning Portal website (external link)

In addition the Local Validation List provides details of the information required as part of an application for a Lawful Development Certificate.

Please note, if your road is classified for example, an A road you will require planning permission for a crossover or dropped kerb.
