Orienteering is a timed sport where competitors of all ages and abilities navigate their way at their own pace between features marked on a special map. A course varies in length from about 2 km with 8 control points for beginners and children to over 10 km for experienced adult orienteers. At all events there will be a range of courses suitable for newcomers. These events will often be referred to as Colour Coded - this just means they follow a similar colour grade system not unlike Judo, white is easy, black is hardest! Orienteering takes place, mainly on Sundays, on a wide range of outdoor sites ranging from parks, countryside, forest and moorlands.
Our membership of about 270 comes from the general area of West Surrey, North East Hampshire and South Berkshire. The club organises events in your area (namely: Aldershot, Alton, Bagshot, Bordon, Bracknell, Byfleet, Camberley, Farnborough, Farnham, Frimley and Woking). We promote a series of Introductory/Junior League events on Saturday mornings during the winter season and training sessions for all on most Wednesday evenings in the summer. In addition . we are holding a number of introductory events on Saturdays in the Summer months this year - see our website for more details.
Orienteering is great fun!
