Disabled Facilities Grant

Disabled Facilities Grants help with the cost of adapting your home to suit your needs.

Funding amount

The maximum amount available is £30,000.

Applications are means tested. This includes the disabled person and their spouse or partner. The test will identify how much you should put towards the cost of the work. People under 19 and those already on a means tested benefit will automatically qualify. Proof of age/benefits will need to be provided.

The amount of grant funding is the figure calculated to meet the cost of the works less the applicant's contribution.

A grant cannot pay for work which has already started or has been completed prior to grant approval. Where a contribution has to be made and the applicant cannot self-fund, further assistance may be available from the Council in the form of loans.

Top up grants and loans may be available from Surrey County Council. To find more speak to your occupational therapist.

Relocation

In some cases, it may be more suitable to move to a new home that already meets your required needs.

For example, if you are disabled and require a bathroom on the ground floor, you may prefer to move into a ground floor flat, bungalow or house which has these facilities. The grant would then be used to assist you with the cost of the move to a maximum of £10,000.
