Surrey Heath Borough Council is celebrating after receiving FOUR Green Flag Awards for parks and green spaces across the Borough.

This doubles the number of parks in Surrey Heath which have achieved the international mark of quality and excellence compared with last year.

Frimley Green Recreation Ground and Windlemere Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG) have newly-achieved Green Flag Awards, joining existing award holders Frimley Lodge Park and Lightwater Country Park.

This year marks 23 consecutive years of Green Flag awards for Frimley Lodge Park – a brilliant achievement – while Lightwater Country Park is celebrating its fifth award.

Surrey Heath Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Net Zero, Wellbeing and Environment, Cllr Morgan Rise, said: “I am thrilled that we now have four Green Flag Award winning parks across our beautiful Borough.

“This fantastic news is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team that care for the green spaces across the Borough, so that everyone can enjoy them.

“Getting out and about in the great outdoors is good for our mental and physical wellbeing, and so having high quality parks and green spaces available for local people and visitors is one of our priorities. Congratulations to everyone involved.”

Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd MBE said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved at Surrey Heath in achieving four Green Flag Awards.

“These locations are vital green space for the community in Surrey Heath, bringing people together and providing opportunities to lead healthy lifestyles. The staff and volunteers do so much to ensure that they maintain the high standards of the Green Flag Award and everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
