Surrey Heath Borough Council is celebrating the news it has retained its Investors in People (IiP) status and achieved additional recognition by securing a Bronze award, placing it in a small minority of organisations in the country to achieve this feat.
Investors in People is a nationally recognised standard awarded to organisations that show excellent people management leading to improved business performance.
As at April 2010, those achieving the Bronze standard are in the top 3% of Investors in People recognised organisations.
The Bronze status was awarded after a three-day assessment in May involving a random sample of staff from different teams within the council and covering things such as communications, learning and development, and continuous improvement.
In their report, Investors in People assessors highlighted the areas that the council excelled in. It said these included "its consultative approach taken to developing the 2020 Corporate Strategy, implementing effective communications systems that ensure staff are kept informed of what is happening and its ongoing commitment to developing managers".
Portfolio holder for organisational development Cllr Keith Bush said: "Gaining this award is excellent news, especially as this was our first attempt at securing Bronze under the more stringent IiP certification. It recognises the commitment of staff and the high standards we set ourselves towards continuous improvement and I'm delighted the IiP assessors have told us we are good enough to go for the silver or maybe even the gold next time."
