On the evening of Friday 25 June, the Mayor and Mayoress of Surrey Heath, Councillor John and Mrs Juliette May, welcomed veterans and serving personnel to Surrey Heath House for a Civic Reception, the theme of which was "The Armed Forces - Past, Present and Future".
The week of celebrations started on Monday 21 June when the Mayor and Mayoress were joined by representatives from ex-Service Associations, and from RMA Sandhurst and RLC Deepcut to raise the Armed Forces Day flag. This took place outside the council offices in Knoll Road and was the first event of the week in tribute to our armed forces, culminating in Armed Forces Day on Saturday 26 June.
Speaking at the Reception, the Mayor of Surrey Heath, Councillor John May said: "This Reception is an opportunity for us to show our appreciation of the contribution made by all those who have served in the past, and those who are serving today, in the Armed Forces. I am proud and humbled to lead the Borough's tribute to our servicemen and women.
"We owe so much to so many. We honour each and every one of you and offer you our continued support, our appreciation and our heartfelt thanks."
