Service personnel and veterans joined the Mayor of Surrey Heath, Councillor John May, on Monday June 21 when Surrey Heath Borough Council along with hundreds of other councils throughout the country raised a flag for the armed forces.
The specially designed flag, based on the Union Jack, was raised outside Surrey Heath House at Knoll Road, Camberley.
The event started a week of celebrations in tribute of our armed forces, which will culminate in the national Armed Forces Day on Saturday 26 June to honour the UK's Service personnel, past, present and future.
Among the guests were representatives from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the Royal Logistic Corps Deepcut, the Royal British Legion Camberley and Windlesham Branches and the Frimley and Camberley Cadet Corps.
Councillor John May said: "The council is pleased to take part in this important event which is an opportunity for us to show our appreciation for the contribution made by all those who serve, or have served, in Her Majesty's Armed Forces. It gives us the chance to acknowledge all they have done in the past, and all they continue to do today all around the world. We offer them our sincere and heartfelt thanks."
The Mayor will also host a Civic Reception on Friday 25 June under the theme "The Armed Forces - Past, Present and Future".
