Get your nominations in for Surrey Heath Sports Awards 2010

Released on 10 June 2010

Jamie East - Male Sports Personality of the Year 2009Nominations are invited for the highlight of the Surrey Heath sporting calendar when the annual Sports Awards ceremony takes place in July at the Camberley Theatre.

The Surrey Heath Sports Awards recognise and honour local sportspeople, teams, clubs, coaches and volunteers who make an outstanding contribution to sport in the borough. Surrey Heath Borough Council is inviting people to put forward their sporting heroes that they feel are deserving of recognition. The deadline for nominations is Friday 2 July 2010.

Five winners from Surrey Heath's Sports Awards 2009 went on to be short listed in the county-wide Surrey Sports Awards last year, with Zak Jesse (Young Sports Personality of the Year), Valley End Cricket Club (Sports Team of the Year) and Lucy Brown (Young Volunteer of the Year) all winning their respective categories.

This year will see people's achievements celebrated in 13 different award categories with the winners receiving trophies, grants toward their sporting development and automatic nomination for the Surrey Sports Awards. They will be joined at the event by the Mayor of Surrey Heath and hundreds of players, coaches and volunteers that help to drive and deliver sport across the borough

The awards include: male and female sports personality of the year; sports team and young sports team of the year; outstanding service to sport; young volunteer of the year and the Surrey Youth Games most improved male and female.

Portfolio holder for arts and leisure, Councillor Craig Fennell said: "The awards are a superb event and an excellent opportunity to celebrate our home-grown sporting talent. Anyone who is part of a sports club, school team or sports coaching is encouraged to put forward their nominations of those they believe have shown real dedication and drive during the last year."

Nomination forms are available via www.surreyheath.gov.uk/leisure or alternatively call Leisure Services on 01276 707272 to request a form by post.

The awards are kindly supported this year by The Arena Leisure Centre and the Independent Living Group.
