Chief Executive future plans

Released on 08 June 2010

Surrey Heath Borough Council's Chief Executive Michael Willis has announced that he will be leaving the authority before the end of 2010.

A dual New Zealand and British citizen, Michael joined Surrey Heath in late 2007 from New South Wales, Australia, where he had been General Manager to the Blue Mountains City Council.

Mr Willis said: "After much thought, my family and I decided at the end of last year to head back 'Down Under' by no later than the end of this year.

"My time at Surrey Heath Borough Council has been challenging and rewarding, while in return I trust that I have brought a fresh perspective and set of experiences that have been of benefit to the council, its staff and most importantly to those we serve."

Leader of the Council, Cllr Moira Gibson said: "Michael has brought a wealth of experience and a welcome breath of fresh air to Surrey Heath in the three years he will have been our Chief Executive.

"He has overseen a new direction in our structures and the way we approach budget setting which has been successfully taken forward.

"The Council thanks him for his contribution and wishes he and his family well for the future and their return to 'Down Under'."
