"Get involved in helping to influence how development might proceed at Deepcut once the army moves out of the Princess Royal Barracks", is the message to residents from Surrey Heath Borough Council.
The barracks are to be redeveloped following the MoDs departure in 2013 and this provides an opportunity to create a new rural village community in the Deepcut area.
A community planning event is being held on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 March at Deepcut Village Centre to help develop the principles for the future of this new village. This is your chance to have your say and contribute your thoughts and ideas.
Workshops and an exhibition will highlight the issues and possible future options for Deepcut and will be run by a team of independent facilitators who will be on hand to answer questions, gather people's thoughts and discuss ideas.
Portfolio holder for the built environment, Cllr Chris Rowbotham said: "The local community's views on the future of Deepcut are vital in determining the direction the new settlement will take in the future and the council would like people who live, work and shop in the area to be involved.
"In particular, the council want to know how the community see the new village taking shape and what the broad principles should be that guide its development."
Visitors can be involved in several ways, - by visiting an exhibition and/or by attending one of the specific workshops. At the exhibition it will be possible to browse, ask questions and discuss ideas with the team. The exhibition will run from 2pm to 7pm Friday 19th and from 9am to 4pm Saturday 20th March. The workshops will cover specific issues: transport and highways - Friday 5pm to 7pm, village planning - Saturday 9.30am to 12.30pm, and community infrastructure - Saturday 1pm to 4pm. For more information, and to register for the workshops visit the Deepcut Development Project page on the Surrey Heath website - www.surreyheath.gov.uk/planning/deepcutdevproject - or by calling 01276 707245.
Following the event, all the information received will be carefully evaluated and used to draw up a Supplementary Planning Document (SDP) for Deepcut. The SPD will provide the policy basis for planning the new settlement and will provide a guide by which future planning applications can be assessed. The SDP is anticipated to be released for consultation in draft form in late summer 2010.
