Frimley Green Recreation Ground is set to benefit from a range of improvements including landscaping, renovations and repairs as part of a scheme aimed at enhancing community safety.
The improvements are the result of a successful grant bid of £40,000 by Surrey Heath Borough Council to the Surrey Criminal Justice Board which comes from a £90,000 budget allocated for all of Surrey, for use towards community safety projects nominated by members of the public.
Frimley Green Football Club, Surrey Police and residents from the local community have all worked in partnership with the council in developing the project which aims to target previous vandalism in the park - a priority identified by the Safer Surrey Heath Partnership's Joint Action Group in 2009.
With work scheduled to start in March, the upgrade will feature: tree and shrub planting; repairs to tennis court fences and renovated fencing around the football pitch, as well as repairs and refurbishment to the park pavilion.
Portfolio Holder for Community Cllr Vivienne Chapman said: "Community safety is one of the council's top priorities in keeping Surrey Heath a pleasant place to live.
"We are very pleased to have successfully secured this funding through working in partnership with community members and it will provide an excellent opportunity for Frimley Green Recreation Ground.
"I am sure this news will please existing users and I hope will result in more and more residents using the park."
