As the weather starts to become colder and the nights draw in, young people are reminded that they can escape the winter chill and meet with friends on a Friday night at The Camberley Youth Café.
The café is run from The Good Taste Coffee Shop in Camberley High Street between 7.30pm and 10pm on Fridays during school term time.
It is aimed at teenagers aged 13 to 17 years old, providing them with a place to socialise and it offers subsidised non-alcoholic drinks.
Corporate Portfolio Holder Cllr Richard Brooks, who oversees youth issues, said:" By popular demand The Youth Cafe has re-opened providing a safer place for teenagers to meet in central Camberley."
The project was launched in September 2005 in response to demand from young people who needed somewhere to go during the long winter evenings. By prior arrangement it closed during the summer months which disappointed some teenagers. It re-opened on October 6.
It is funded by the Safer Surrey Heath partnership Opens in a new window and operated by the local youth development team and coffee shop staff. Safer Surrey Heath is the Surrey Heath Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership which comprises of Surrey Heath Borough Council, Surrey Police Opens in a new window, Surrey Police Authority, Surrey Heath and Woking Primary Care Trust Opens in a new window, Surrey County Council Opens in a new window and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service Opens in a new window.
