Young people will have the chance to learn Thai boxing from the British, Commonwealth and World Title Holder as part of Surrey Heath Borough Council's October Action Holiday programme.
World Thai Boxing Champion Richard Fenwick will share his skills with the children when he runs the Thai/kick boxing session as part of the programme.
It is the first time an Action Holiday programme has been organised during the autumn half-term. This has come about due to requests from parents in the Borough and the success of the summer programme within Surrey Heath. It will also offer boys and girls, aged between eight and 14 years old, the chance to have a go at air rifle shooting, in-line roller hockey, archery and bowls, as part of a week long Multi Sport Activity Camp. Some of these activities are suitable for those with disabilities.
The camp, which is organised by Leisure Services, will be held from Monday, October 23, to Friday, October 27, at the Lord Roberts Centre in Bisley between 9.30am and 4.30pm each day.
Portfolio Holder for Customer Care Cllr Vivienne Chapman said: "The Action Holiday programme proved so popular with people during the summer that we are looking forward to the half-term sessions and expect them to be just as successful as the summer programme. The Multi Sport Activity Camp provides young people with the opportunity to try out a variety of sports that they may not normally have the chance to experience and encourages them to learn new skills and make new friends."
It costs £75 for the week and there are limited spaces so people are advised to book as soon as possible. To book a place please call the Lord Roberts Centre on 01483 485522.
During the summer holidays the Council's Leisure Services work in conjunction with a number of external organisations to provide exciting programme of opportunities in sports, arts and adventure, which are aimed at encouraging children to have fun and keep fit and active. Action Holiday 2007 will include canoeing, athletics, hockey, karate, fishing, water sports, a dance / street dance workshop and football training by Chelsea FC Football in the Community.
